> Old is New

It's insanely weird to me that shit I grew up with is now the "retro." Like it's in-fashion to be a shitty mallgoth using MS Paint and making eyesore internet layouts.
I recognize the irony in saying this, as I code a shitty little eyesore website on a hosting platform that is a direct play on Neocities, which was something I used in my teenage years.
But it's weird hearing 20-year-olds talking about this kind of shit. For kids that are barely old enough to drink talking about Tripp pants and Invader Zim.
But I suppose that's the same kind of shit my parents went through during my time.

Speaking of old being new, I found out about [Metroid HD] through Vinesauce.

It's very good, and I beat the whole thing. (Fun fact: I go after Ridley before Kraid in Metroid NES, because the Ridley route leads to better powerups early on.) But the music stutters like a motherfucker. I don't know if it's just because I don't have the processing power for it (probably), or whatever, but I can't fix it, regardless of what I tweak in Mesen. The pack also bumps Mesen's memory usage from around 88MB with a regular NES rom, to 3GB with the HD pack. Which is insane.
So that's quite annoying and unfortunate. I have to play it muted or not at all.

People in subreddits I follow are complaining about a popular goth-focused sub banning any mention of music outside of insanely-specific subgenres of subgenres. And honestly, I agree.
It's one thing for people to go around calling Slipknot goth. It's another for them to make mention of Razed in Black or Skinny Puppy as things goths tend to listen to.
I really don't get this hyper-stringent mallcop way of viewing music. "Oh this isn't metal, this is post-ambient blackdeath hardtack dickwave." Literally nobody has time to memorize all this shit. How the fuck do you? Do you flashcard yourself, just as a reminder? Is it really that important?
I was like this when I was like 20 and the scene was new to me. I was self-admittedly a pretentious, intolerable cunt. But these people are like fucking 45. There's a massive difference between some dumbass kid fresh out of highschool acting like this, and someone who is doing it 20 years later.
And even then, I wasn't so anal-retentive that I didn't associate things like industrial and synthpop with it at all. There's a certain point where you just have to go "Am I really doing anything productive by acting like this?"
I'm about to just leave the sub and get my goth rock exposure somewhere else.

In more personal news, we're under blizzard conditions for the next two days, apparently. It's fucking annoying. I just want to get shit done.
